The model 054 general purpose ultrasound QA phantom for CIRS has been updated to offer more functionality (updated to 054GS). The phantom has been widely used for a number of years by QA personnel and engineers for the routine assessment of Ultrasound machines. This Ultrasound phantom mimics the acoustic properties of soft tissue and a removable water well and endocavity cover extends the use of the phantom by allowing evaluation of all transducer configurations, linear, curvilinear and intercavity. The model is constructed from the patented solid elastic material Zerdine. The phantom contains gray scale targets and improved sensitivity targets that exceed the phantom requirements outlined in the ACR accreditation programme.
The additions to this phantom are as follows.
- Addition of six , 8 mm diameter gray scale targets located at a depth of 4 cm
- Addition of five , 8 mm diameter anechoic targets located at various depths
- Improvement of the axial resolution target group to contain targets for both axial and lateral resolution measurements
- Addition of a second axial-lateral resolution target at 11 cm depth
- Improvement to the latching system used to attach the various removable covers and water-wells
- Reduction in the size of the carry case for improved handling.
These additions will give a much more flexible phantom and reduce the number of QA tools needed to evaluate and qualify a wider range of ultrasound equipment. Posted on 19 Oct 2009
