A new design to the Cathpax Radiation Protection Cabinet now makes it compatible with every C-arm manufacturer. The adjustable feet also allow a higher degree of freedom around the patient. Invasive prolonged cardiac procedures like AF ablation for example involve considerable radiation exposure to the operator and the use of heavy apparel that will not only leave the operator in discomfort, but leave large areas of the body unprotected.
Cathpax has 2mm of lead equivalent which significantly reduces exposure compared to a 0.5mm apron and provides complete protection from both of the greater exposed sides, still allowing full manoeuvrability around any bi-plane table.
A clinical paper published in the European heart Journal by Professor Michel Haissaguerre shows negligible radiation exposure and no impact on the ability of the surgeon to carry out the procedure whilst using the Cathpax. In fact, the average case time was reduced by 12 minutes.
Cathpax is manufactured by Lemer Pax in France and distributed exclusively by Imaging Equipment in the UK. Posted on 12 Aug 2008
