A paper recently published in The European Heart Journal concludes that;-
“the use of Radiation Protection Cabin allows (an operator) to perform catheter ablation procedures without hindrance and with negligible radiation exposure for the operator”
Cathpax, developed by LEMER PAX of France, provides superior radiation protection for the cardiac surgeon, whilst eliminating the requirement for the surgeon to wear heavy drapes or protective clothing. Across the UK 100’s of days are lost annually when surgeons are unable to work due to back pain brought on by wearing heavy drapes.
The 2mm lead equivalent walls provide superior protection when compared to a standard 0.5 mm lead apron. In addition the large lead acrylic window provides the surgeon with a clear view of the patient, whilst providing protection to the surgeons face and eyes, an area often neglected by standard radiation protection.
