The system consists of a miniaturized transmitter/receiver that measures a distance on the patient's' body. If placed on the thorax or the abdomen, the respisens tracks patient breathing and thus helps monitoring and securing breath hold manoeuvres. If placed on a motionless part of a patient, it helps verify immobility.
Therefore, the respisens is particularly useful to radiotherapists and radiophysicists who want to increase patient safety during irradiation.
